Mexican Fiesta education fundraiser at LCS

The fun-packed Fiesta Mexicana sponsored by the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) is scheduled for Saturday, January 31 from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at the group’s 16 de Septiembre campus in Ajijic.

This unique event is the largest annual LCS fundraiser and is designed to benefit all of the LCS community education programs. Since its inception more than 300 area students have been able to stay in school thanks to the scholarships from the LCS student aid program.

Each year more than 250 area residents, ages 14 and up, graduate from the English as a Second Language program and more than 100 delighted children gather each Saturday to paint and draw at the Children’s Art Program.

The popular Guadalajara restaurant Santo Coyote is helping host this year’s Fiesta Mexicana. The restaurant will set up an extensive Mexican buffet, including appetizers and a huge dessert bar. Arriving guests will be welcomed with a margarita and the music from a mariachi ensemble. As the afternoon progresses fiesta-goers can dance to the music provided by the DJ and then watch as they are entertained by a ballet folkloric troupe

Included in the afternoon’s entertainment will be a fashion show featuring the clothing from Rosario Mendoza, who designs under the label Takasami. Mendoza, considered to one of the top designers in the international garment industry won an Emmy in 2012 for the costumes she created for the opening ceremonies of the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

Another fiesta highlight will be the always popular silent auction which will include many upscale items along with golf packages, dinners and works of art.

Tickets for the event are 400 pesos and may be purchased at LCS office and Opus Boutique.
