Chapala main street merchants embrace uniform color scheme

After putting their heads together with Mayor Joaquín Huerta last week, merchants doing business on Chapala’s Avenida Madero are joining forces with the local government to spruce up the main thoroughfare following a uniform color scheme.

In the cooperative effort to apply fresh paint to the avenue’s store fronts, merchants will supply the needed materials while city hall kicks in free manpower.

The color palette, taken from a project designed by urban planning students at Guadalajara’s Tecnológico de Monterrey campus, emphasizes various shades of yellow and gold with highlights in tones of brick red. The selected hue coordinates with the look of the old Presidencia Municipal building, currently under renovation.

Farmacia San Nicolas, located on the east side of the street near the corner of Miguel Martinez, is being credited as the first enterprise to adopt the cosmetic makeover. Another ten businesses also jumped on the bandwagon in the course of this week.

The project is being coordinated by the municipal tourism department, with an interest in fast-tracking work to transform the city’s appearance before the Easter holiday vacation period peaks.
