Burglar targets Chapala church

Chapala parish priest Enrique Monteón Curiel reported the theft of valuables from the sacristy of the San Francisco Church discovered early Monday, August 19.

In a formal complaint filed immediately with the Ministerio Publico (district attorney’s office), Curiel indicated that he found that the lock on the wooden door leading from the church altar into the sacristy had been forced open. Inside the chamber he discovered that the money-boxes holding collections from Sunday services had been emptied. In addition, two antique gold chalices used for communion were missing.

A forensic team dispatched to the scene of the crime collected fingerprints and other evidence that could lead to the identification and capture of irreverent thief.
