Men at work on Chapala’s main drag

To kick off a grand plan to transform Chapala into a prime tourist destination, the new municipal government is refurbishing the median strip in front of city hall to create a wider, pedestrian-friendly esplanade.

The project design calls for preserving existing trees and plantings surrounded by stone paver walkways and park benches. Parking spaces on either side are being eliminated. Costs will be covered from the three- million-peso funding package originally ticketed earlier this year for remodeling the plaza in San Antonio Tlayacapan.
