Chapala’s first 2017 homicide case went on record Sunday, January 1 after a corpse was found on a foot trail leading off the Libramiento bypass located a short distance from the entrance to Chula Vista Norte.
The gruesome discovery was reported to Chapala police headquarters around 11 a.m. Officers cordoned off the area until personnel from the local district’s attorney’s office (MP) and a forensic team from Guadalajara arrived on the scene.
According to MP officials, the abandoned body was wrapped in black plastic bags and covered with a blanket. The male victim, about 30 years in age and 1.75 meters in height, was dressed in denim pants, a black belt and dark shoes. His identity was still unknown at press time.
The autopsy report specifying the exact cause of death is also pending, although initial examination of the corpse showed signs of injuries from beating and a sharp instrument. The estimated time of death was eight to nine hours prior to recovery by the authorities.
