Trash bin placement raises a stink

The installation of a bright red trash bin at Chapala’s main intersection early last week caused a public uproar over its placement at the focal point for photographs of the downtown’s major landmarks.

The metal container appeared suddenly early Monday, April 10, set in concrete directly in front of the antique stone fountain at the center of Avenida Madero.

Outraged citizens immediately posted objections on social media platforms, complaining that the eyesore ruins views of the fountain and the emblematic San Francisco Church and City Hall building in the background. By the end of the day the trash can had vanished.
