Gas station bandits busted

Police units from Chapala and Ixtlahuacán captured a couple implicated in the July 17 hold-up of the Pemex service station located on the main highway just beyond the Libramiento by-pass colverleaf.

The 30-year-old male suspect and his female companion, 18, were detained following a high-speed chase that began when the pair sped off from the crime scene in a black compact Ford sedan with plates from Nuevo León, ending at Santa Rosa junction connecting to the Guadalajara-La Barca highway after an exchange of gun fire between officers and the alleged thieves.

The incident was reported around 11:30 a.m. by gasoline dispatchers who later indentified the pair as the individuals who held them up, making off with an undisclosed amount of money. At the time of the arrest, police secured two firearms and a wad of cash found inside the get-away car.

According to Chapala Police Chief Adán Domínguez, the alleged bandits confessed to be involved in several armed robberies of 24-hour gas stations and convenience stores in the metro area and other localities around the state.
