Drug company boss steps in to help ailing lakeshore town

Carlos Lomelí Bolaños, the pharmaceutical magnate and federal congressman for the left-of-center Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), is donating medical supplies to residents in the lakeshore town of Poncitlan, where dozens of cases of kidney failure have been reported.

Lomelí has promised to set up a clinic in the town where medical specialists can provide dialysis treatment to anyone in need.

The owner of Laboratorios Lomedic denied that his generosity has anything to do with the upcoming election in 2018.  Lomelí is considered a frontrunner to be Morena’s candidate for the Jalisco governor’s race.

“There are 8,000 cases of people with kidney failure in Jalisco. Hopefully, the Secretary of Health will start to assume his responsibility to help them,” Lomelí said.
