Chapala to hold 2018 taxes at current rates

Good news for local taxpayers emerged this week. At its August 29 session, the Chapala city council approved the municipality’s 2018 Ley de Ingresos (Income Code) which fixes the table for property taxes, business licenses and other government fees at the same rate applied for 2017.

The current calculation of property values will also remain on hold.

In addition, councilors gave a green light for other taxpayer incentives.

Entrepreneurs getting into hotel, bed and breakfast and other lodging businesses  will be offered a 50 percent discount on both predial (property tax) and license bills next year.

Land owners who convert their properties into parking facilities will get half off on predial, along with free operating licenses for 2018 and a 50 percent discount the following year.

Environmentaly-conscious home owners who install roof gardens to generate more oxygen in the atmosphere can apply for a 30 percent discount on property tax.
