Pet poisonings resurface in Ajijic

After a 10-month lull, reports of multiple animal poisonings have put Ajijic pet owners on alert again.

Since November 8, two dogs perished and one other survived after showing symptoms of poisoning, according to householders residing on Calle Hidalgo in the block between Juárez and Aquiles Serdán. At least ten cat fatalities have also been reported in the vicinity.

Most incidents on Hidalgo occurred during morning hours. There are suspicions that a neighbor who harbors a grudge against roaming street dogs is the perpetrator.

Ajijic was beleaguered by a rash of dog poisonings between August 2016 and January of this year. A city hall employee implicated in the serial killings avoided criminal prosecution due to lack of solid evidence.

New cases may be channeled through the ecology office at Chapala City Hall. It is advisable to keep dogs leashed and muzzled when taken out for walks.
