Chapala to glimmer with giant Bethlehem scene

The heavily populated hillside overlooking downtown Chapala will be adorned for the Christmas season to depict a nativity scene of monumental proportions.

The project devised under the auspices of the San Francisco Church and the municipal government will entail mounting huge metal silhouette figures representing the Holy Family on the highest roof in the Barrio de Tepehua.

The star of Bethlehem will blaze from a nearby transmission tower. Homes in the neighborhood will sparkle with strings of holiday lights.

The giant nacimiento will be unveiled at a lighting celebration scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 7:30 p.m., at the municipal soccer field located at the north end of Avenida Madero. The event will feature the debut screening of a music video, with more than a dozen local groups performing “Estrella de Paz,” an original score composed by Moises Real set to poetic lyrics by Zaida Cristina Reynoso.   The public is welcome to attend.
