Gustavo Reyes Carretón, Chapala coordinator of the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) party, sustained severe injuries Friday, February 2, during a violent attack perpetrated by an unidentified assailant.
The incident occurred at Reyes’ dental prostheses laboratory on Avenida Madero where he was jumped by a male wielding a bladed weapon. The victim was rushed to the Cruz Roja Clinic for immediate attention to multiple, life-threatening stab wounds. Once stabilized, he was transferred to a Guadalajara hospital for advanced care. At press time he remained there in stable condition.
During a press conference held the following day, Chapala Mayor Javier Degollado stated that the crime is under investigation by agents of the Jalisco Attorney General. While municipal police were not involved in the immediate aftermath, he noted that city authorities are standing by to cooperate as needed to help solve the case.
The mayor indicated that the principal line of investigation points to a personal conflict between private parties. He made no mention of possible political motives and refused to entertain further questions from reporters.
