Work lags on multiple street improvements

Despite several major public works projects yet to be finished, the Chapala government is undertaking additional street upgrades at three points in the Tepehua neighborhood.

pg13aWork got underway on February 7 and is set for completion within a 90-day time frame.

The project in one of Chapala’s most economically challenged barrios includes replacing underground water and sewage infrastructure, resurfacing roadways with cobblestones set in cement and building new curbs and sidewalks on Calle de La Vista, Privada La Vista and Calle Aguascalientes.

Also tied in is rehabilitation of the pedestrian stairway, green areas and lighting fixtures at the latter location. The total price tag is 3.4 million pesos.

Meanwhile, work crews continue plodding along sporadically at other project sites.

The ground-up reconstruction of a three-block stretch of Chapala’s Calle Zaragoza is nearing completion, save three intersections at López Cotilla and Degollado.

And after a two-week hiatus during the Carnaval festivities, labors resumed last week to finish the last leg of Calle Morelos.

Ongoing improvement work along the central core of the Ajijic highway is currently concentrated on the north side leg between Colón and Juárez, while finishing touches are being added to the sidewalks and ciclovía bicycle path running to the east as far as Calle Javier Mina.

This project is now three months behind schedule, although Chapala Public Works Director Rodrigo Paredes has pledged to get the job done by March 2.  Skeptics are not holding their breaths.
