Tlaqueparte bigger and better at Expo GDL

Some 20 expats took a Charter Club Tours bus from Ajijic to Tlaqueparte last Friday.

pg4aThis year’s biannual crafts fair moved from last fall’s venue in the Centro Cultural El Refugio in Tlaquepaque back to Expo Guadalajara in order to hold many new exhibitors.

This giant biannual bazaar has been running since 1997 and has something to please everyone at a range of prices.  Besides dozens of examples of Mexico’s well-known folk art, there was a large presence of crafts from countries such as Cuba, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Egypt, Turkey and Senegal. New this year were ebony sculptures from Nigeria, amber from Russia, Greek crafts, and textiles and embroidery from Paraguay.

This event is always a magnificent opportunity to buy directly from Mexican artisans, including jewelry, ceramics, lacquered boxes, Mexican silver, mirrors, furniture, belts, wallets, guayaberas, women’s clothing, hammocks, deck chairs, bags, masks, photo frames, religious items, blown glass, paintings, wrought iron and candles, among many other products.

The next Tlaqueparte event will be in late October 2018.
