Expat found dead in Lake Chapala

The death of an elderly expatriate whose body was found floating in the lake early this week has been provisionally labeled a probable suicide by drowning.

The corpse was located just offshore in the vicinity of Calle Flores Magon on Ajijic’s west side on the evening of July 29, showing signs that death had occurred several days earlier.

Local police at the scene reported that the body was identified by the man’s widow who stated that he had been missing for four days since leaving their home in Villa Nova. He had left behind a letter saying he intended to take his own life in a swim across the lake.

Jalisco’s Institute of Forensics (IJCF) will issue a definitive ruling on the cause of death.
