Rafael Guzmán de la Fuente, the gentleman who donated undeveloped land for future construction of the University of Guadalajara’s regional campus, has been named as Chapala’s Distinguished Senior Citizen 2018.
Honored at a ceremony held Tuesday, August 27 at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia, Guzmán de la Fuente received an engraved plaque and silver medal awarded by Jalisco’s Family Development Agency (DIF).
The 20-hectare spread known as Las Parras is located north of Chapala’s city limit on the hillside overlooking the Las Brisas subdivision.
The event marking Mexico’s Día del Adulto Mayor featured colorful entertainment provided by energetic elders who form the Nuevo Sol chorus from Santa Cruz de la Soledad and folk dance troupes in Atotonilquillo and Chapala.
