Bullets fly as cops pursue car thief

Police recovered a stolen car and arrested the presumed thief at the end of a high-speed chase along the Chapala-Jocotepec highway Friday, September 21.

The pursuit involved public security units from both Chapala and Jocotepec.  Officers reportedly fired warning shots into the air during the hunt, finally running the suspect to ground in Riberas del Pilar.

San Juan Cosalá resident Eusebio “N”, age 23, is alleged to have entered the home of an expatriate resident of the Raquet Club, grabbed a set of car keys and made off with the 2012 model Toyota Rav sport utility vehicle. The owner’s spouse alerted the authorities when the SUV was spotted traveling the highway through the center of Ajijic several hours after it disappeared.

The suspect was collared while attempting to escape on foot after he abandoned the car on Calle San Pablo around 5 p.m.
