Moisés Anaya Aguilar will take the oath of office as Chapala’s new mayor in a public ceremony scheduled for Sunday, September 30, 8 p.m., at the Auditorio de La Ribera, La Floresta.

The ten other regidores (councilors) elected to take seats on the cabildo (municipal council) will also be sworn in at the event.

Anaya’s election was ratified Friday, September 21, in a definitive ruling issued by the Regional Chamber of the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF). The magistrates rejected separate appeals filed by the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) and the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), finding no grounds to overturn the results of the July 1 voting process.

The mayor-elect held a press conference Monday, September 24, to introduce some of the men and women he will appoint to posts in the new administration as of October 1.

Anaya also expressed dismay that as time runs out, the outgoing government has delayed the procedures through which the municipality’s property and records are transferred from one administration to the next.

A written request to initiate the process, including notification of the six members of his transition team, was filed on September 5 at the desks of the mayor and city hall comptroller. Neither office issued a response.
