Abundant Life Church

When you are in love with someone it seems as though the world revolves around that one special relationship. The same is true in our relationship with Jesus. He wants to be the center of all we do and think about, but as in other relationships, it is possible that other things begin to crowd out the importance that we once gave to it.

Sunday, November 11, Pastor Jesús ministers on the need to never let the fire of God go out in our lives.

Lake Chapala Baptist

When there’s an unresolved dispute between two parties they often bring in a neutral mediator to try to resolve the issue. He or she can’t favor one side over the other. Their goal is to find an agreeable solution, but no one ever seems to be completely satisfied.

When it comes to eternal matters things are different. The unresolved issue between God and humans was sin. A holy God couldn’t have fellowship with sinful men and women. A mediator was needed but he had to be God and he had to be human. Enter the Lord Jesus Christ. Perfectly God and perfectly man. Only he could bring the two parties together. He paid the penalty of sin for mankind on the cross and God accepted that sacrifice when Christ was resurrected. The opportunity for reconciliation was accomplished. Men and women can confess their sin, turn away from it and trust that finished work of Christ. When they do, God graciously gives them eternal life. That’s good news.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Sunday worship is at 11 a.m.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“Dear GOD, I bet it is very hard for You to love all of everybody in the whole world. There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do it.” - Nan.

“Dear GOD, Did You really mean ‘do unto others as they do unto you?’ Because if You did, then I’m going to fix my brother.” - Darla

“Dear GOD, thank you for the baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.” - Joyce

Children’s prayers can be charmingly naive. But are we really that much different when we pray as adults? Do we have a firm handle on what to expect from God? Or, more importantly, what He expects from us. Join the fine folks at the Little Chapel this Sunday, 11 a.m., as Pastor Jim Andrew shares some encouraging words about our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Join us directly after the service for “comida” and a chance to have a dinner together with friends.

The Little Chapel by the Lake is at Chapala-Ajijic Highway 10 in Chula Vista opposite Mirasol. Information: Belva, (376) 766-2538.

Unitarian Universalists

Rev. Mat Alspaugh will speak on “The Power of Humility” at the next meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Sunday, November 11.

Humility seems to be a bit out of fashion in the world today. We humans think we know everything worth knowing and can accomplish anything we want, and if we can’t it isn’t worth doing. We want our children to have strong self-esteem and to develop a self-confidence that will lead to career and life successes. Yet humility, not knowing, not assuming, can lead us to openness to what is new and understanding what we don’t know. We will explore how humility as a virtue can be a support to inner peace and a gateway to gratitude. Lorna Dean is the service leader.

The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Home Church Int’l

A very valuable entity in our lives is the issue of trust. It makes for a more peaceful, confident life. One way it enters our experience points to ourselves. We wish we could trust our memory. Then, we might rely on the dependability of something we need to utilize, such as our car. Yet, probably the most valuable trust is in persons, whether kin, friends, or authority. Otherwise we get preoccupied with various concerns. S’long, peace! Relationship gets challenged.

This applies greatly to our spiritual understanding. This is because trust is necessary to our relationships in order to enjoy trustworthiness. Can we really depend on this God who has always been and forever shall be? He really does answer prayer which lines up with His Word, the Bible. We are called to trust His Word, His dependable message to us. That’s why the verse in Proverbs 3:5 assures us “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not on thine own understanding.” Pastors Paul and Susana Allen urge you to trust in Him who is always trustworthy, prompted by His love for you.
