Chapala municipal government shuffles its office locations

The Chapala municipal government has given up its rental lease on the north wing of the city hall building, prompting multiple changes in office locations.

pg15bGovernment departments now operating on the ground floor at the Palacio Municipal include Urban Development, Social Development and Ecology just off the central lobby; Informatic Systems, Human Resources, Education and Civil Registry in the back annex; City Licenses, Treasury and General Service in the south wing. The Property Registry and cashier windows remain in the lobby area.

The mayor’s office, secretary general, city councilors’ offices and the Human Development Department are wrapped around the central area on the second floor. Branching off to the south wing are the Cabinet Room, Legal Department and Comptroller offices, and Transparency office. Departments of Markets, Public Lighting, Cemeteries, Women’s Institute, Claims and Regulation are accessed through hallway leading from the ground floor of the south wing.

Offices situated in the former town hall, next to Banamex, include the Foreign Community Liaison and Rural Development, just inside the entrance.  Upstairs are the departments of Culture, Citizen Particpation and Economic Development.

Simapa water services, Acquisitions, Public Works and Urban Infrastructure have moved farther afield to rented office space at Calle Juárez 573, beween López Cotilla and Degollado.

The government purchased the main section of the former Hotel Nido in 2000. Owners of quarters in the north wing intended to raise the rent from 68,000 pesos per month to nearly 90,000 pesos. The building on Juárez, former headquarters of the local Public Prosecutors office, is being leased for 15,000 pesos monthly.
