Christmas continues in Chapala area with posadas, Masses

Children will be out on the streets of local neighborhoods to join in pre-Christmas posada processions held daily through Monday, December 24.

Youngsters portraying Mary and Joseph lead the parades departing from the Rosario Chapel at the Ajijic plaza at 5:30 p.m.  Starting points in San Antonio Tlayacapan vary from day to day, with the kids gathering around 6:30 p.m.

Christmas Eve observations at Ajijic’s San Andrés Parish commence at 6:30 p.m. with one or more live nativity scenes and a colorful holiday theme carpet going on display in the atrium. The celebration of the traditional Misa de Gallo (Rooster’s Mass) begins at 8 p.m. inside the church. Christmas Day masses will be held throughout the day according to the regular Sunday schedule, minus the 7 a.m. service.

The Misa de Gallo at Chapala’s San Francisco Parish will be held December 24, 8 p.m.  Services on December 25 are scheduled for 9 and 11 a.m., noon, 1, 5:30 and 8 p.m.

Key departments at Chapala City Hall will be handled by skeleton office staff during the December 21-January 4 vacation period, with normal operations resuming Monday, January 7.
