San Antonio sewage emergency

Chapala’s SIMAPA water service agency took quick action to replace a faulty sewage line in San Antonio Tlayacapan that sprung leaks late last week, releasing foul-smelling wastewater along streets running directly into the lake.

pg13aThe emergency project involved digging up the entire block of Calle La Paz between Independencia and San José to remove damaged concrete pipes and lay down 200 meters of new PVC conduit.

Once the infrastructure is repaired, workers will stay on the job to upgrade the cobblestone street surface.

A crew has also been dispatched to fix potholes and damage on Calle Ramón Corona, the village’s main east-to-west thoroughfare and bus route.

SIMAPA likewise promptly tackled the simultaneous breakdown of the pump at Ajijic’s Number 4 well in Villa Nova that left the western sector of the town without water supply last weekend. Although it was expected to take up to a full week to complete the repair work, service was fully restored by Sunday night — a space of just three days.
