Chapala mayor reviews first 100 days

Underscoring his commitment to a new paradigm in public administration, Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya presented a review of his government’s first 100 days in office at a forum held Monday, January 14 at the former town hall building.

pg3aIn a short speech, Anaya talked about the administration’s work and accomplishments since October 1, emphasizing the challenges involved in overcoming crushing financial restraints and the loyalty of top officials who took a 50-percent pay cut during their first three months on the job.

Anaya outlined his guiding principles for governing on behalf of, and in conjunction with, constituents, which he calls, “Un Gobierno de la Gente” (A People’s Government).

He included a special shout out to foreign residents for their collaboration in social services and community improvement projects.

He also mentioned being open to public opinion, along with policies of austerity and honesty in the management of the municipality’s finances as key factors in what he calls a “different” style of governance.

The mayor’s talk was complemented by a ten-minute video depicting the municipal government’s activities to date. A live transmission of the event was limited to visuals due to a sound glitch.

City Hall’s press office has also compiled facts, figures and images in a special edition of the Municipal Gazette that is now available in PDF format and a limited number of print editions. The section on the government treasury highlights debts totaling 165,324,397 pesos inherited from the 2015-2018 administration. However, Anaya did not delve into the multiple irregularities detected in more than 30 departments since the recent change of government, nor legal actions that may be taken against former officials.

He also failed to provide information on pending public referendums to fill the delegado posts in Ajijic, Atotonilquillo, San Antonio Tlayacapan, San Nicolás de Ibarra and Santa Cruz de Soledad. These are traditionally held within 60 to 90 days after a new government takes office.
