Chapala slayings continue

The wave of execution-style shootings in the Chapala area continues with at least two confirmed fatalities registered since last weekend.

A man was shot dead and two women injured Saturday, February 23, around 4:20 p.m., when a gunman burst into their apartment located in Chapala’s Barrio de Guadalupe near the Municipal Clinic.

Another male was gunned down Tuesday, February 26, at 7:10 p.m. on Calle Álvaro Obregon near the corner of Lázaro Cárdenas in the Plaza de Toros neighborhood.

A local news outlet reported that a male corpse with three bullet wounds in the skull was discovered around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 on Calle Laz Paz in San Juan Cosalá.

The series of killings that has intensified in recent weeks goes back to last November when the alleged head of Chapala’s drug territory was murdered. Local cases appear to be linked to a bloody turf war currently going on statewide between the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación cartels.
