MP outreach at LCS on hold

The services of an English-speaking agent from Chapala’s Ministerio Público (public prosecutor’s office) previously offered on the grounds of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) have been suspended indefinitely.

The outreach program allowed foreign residents with limited Spanish skills to consult, file complaints or follow-up on criminal matters.

Edson Omar Franco, the bilingual official who is usually assigned to handle LCS visits, reports that the service has been on hold since the change of state government last December, pending re-authorization by Jalisco’s new Attorney General.

According to LCS operations manger Adela Alcaraz, two written requests have been sent to state authorities asking for the program’s reinstatement.
