New BRT bus to airport, Chapala in the works

In the coming days, Jalisco authorities are expected to announce the launch of a new project that will see the construction of a BRT (rapid transit) bus line to the Guadalajara International Airport, that will eventually extend to El Salto and Chapala.

In addition, on Wednesday, April 3, Governor Enrique Alfaro gave hints about an impending “historic investment” at the Guadalajara airport. The plan, he said, will be to create the “largest cargo airport in the country.”

The governor said the state will participate fully in both projects, although they will be need to be evaluated, approved and – to a large extent – underwritten by the federal government.

Bus rapid transit (BRT) systems typically include roadways that are dedicated to buses.  As yet, the Macrobus on the Calzada Independencia is Guadalajara’s sole BRT line.
