LCS hosts first business networking event

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) launched its new Conexiones (Connections) program Tuesday, April 9, featuring a presentation by event partners representing the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce (Canaco).

Conexiones is aimed at promoting and networking among local businesses and consumers through monthly mixers that combine promotions by entrepreneurs, information presentations and social interaction. The project is spearheaded by LCS board director at-large Steve Balfour and advisor Glorine Barnhardt.

The debut event wrapped in promotional displays set up by various service providers, a cocktail get-together with free snacks and a cash bar, an introduction to Canaco services by regional delegation coordinator Eduardo Ramos Rangel and Ribera de Chapala honorary delegate Benjamin Mora. Their talks were complemented by an in-depth explanatory video. Local business people in attendance also had an opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience.

A highlight of the speakers’ program was the use of a Google application that allowed simultaneous translation of spoken words into written text projected onto a movie screen placed next to the podium. The innovative tool is especially useful for public events where those in attendance do not share a common language.

Future Conexiones events will be normally scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m. An exception will be next month’s program, set for Saturday, May 4 in conjunction with the Miztli Bazar entrepreneurs fair taking place at LCS on that date.
