Driver’s license service coming to Chapala soon

Jalisco’s Ministry of Transport (Setrans) is finalizing plans to establish a permanent regional office for issuance of driver’s licenses in Chapala.

Confirming the decision this week, Mayor Moisés Anaya announced that module is set to open in July, occupying the current office of the municipality’s public sanitation department, adjacent to a large parking lot facing the Acapulquito seafood restaurant strip.

Anaya indicated that Setrans Director Diego Monraz has approved the location that offers ample space for personnel, equipment and the application of written and practical exams for license candidates.

Regular driver’s permit service at the Chapala headquarters of the state traffic police was suspended ten years ago in the wake of rampant complaints of corruption. Since then, lakeside motorists have been forced to rely on mobile units sent here from time to time, or travel to traffic department offices in Guadalajara and Ocotlán to obtain or renew their licenses.
