Two couples identified as Central American migrants were recently discovered occupying a makeshift shelter nestled among trees on the rocky hillside bordering Chapala’s Avenida Hidalgo, situated just east of the retention wall adorned with a large mural.
Due to the risky conditions, including danger of loose boulders that might tumble down during summer storms, the local government intervened to dislodge the squatters and remove several truckloads of refuse that had accumulated in their nesting spot. Authorities have not clarified the destiny of the expelled inhabitants.
