Thieves strike Orquesta Típica

Musicians who play with the Orquesta Típica de Chapala are on the lookout for various instruments that were pilfered during a break-in at the group’s rehearsal headquarters Wednesday, July 31.

After finding the door to the house located at the corner of Calle Flavio Romero and Júarez open early that morning, orchestra director Javier Raygoza discovered that two violins, two psalteries, an autoharp, a small charango guitar and a pair of conga drums were missing from the premises.

Later in the day, Raygoza tracked down video clips taken from outdoor surveillance cameras installed in the vicinity. The shadowy images captured around 3 p.m. show a man standing guard at the entrance to the house and moments later walking away with instruments that were handed through the door.

The musicians are making the rounds of local pawn shops and consignment shops where the thieves may have placed the stolen instruments for sale, as well as posting pleas for tip-offs on social networks. Anyone who can provide leads to the recovery of the instruments may contact Raygoza at 333-539-3690.
