City Hall seals pact with unionized workers

Low level employees of the Chapala government gained a major victory this week with the signing of a contract that guarantees the fundamental rights and benefits of 375 workers affiliated with the Municipal Union of Public Servants.

Co-signed by Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya and union secretary general Juan Cuevas at a public act held Tuesday, September 10, the pact ends the union’s 18-year struggle to establish ground rules fixed in writing. Previous administrations simply followed flexible verbal agreements with the union.

Among conditions spelled out in the contract, workers are assured annual wage increases tied to inflation and specified days-off for the birth or death of a family member.
