Chapala police capture murder suspect

The Chapala Police Department announced the September 12 detention of a local man who has reportedly confessed to the recent murder of another Chapala resident.

José Luis Alejandro “N” was collared by officers out on routine patrol, who detected that he was carrying a firearm. Submitted to a body search, he was found in possession of a .380 caliber pistol, various rounds of ammunition and six plastic bags containing a substance appearing to be crystal meth.

Once in custody, he admitted to responsibility for the homicide of 26-year-old Gustavo Ríos Pérez,  a local soccer player who died August 26 from three gunshot wounds inflicted during a street dispute with several unidentified individuals.

The case has been turned over to state authorities for investigation and prosecution.
