It was a bonus week for Chapala area school kids as the local government initiated the distribution of supplies to hundreds of local students.
More than 10,000 youngsters enrolled in public kindergartens, primary, secondary and special needs institutions are beneficiaries of the Recrea-Educando para la Vida program through which the municipal and state governments shares costs for the handout of kits containing notebooks, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors and other basic classroom tools, along with backpacks, school uniforms and shoes.
Deliveries kicked off Thursday, September 19 with scores of families collecting the goods at the median strip quadrangle opposite City Hall. The process continued throughout this week as government personnel started making made the rounds to different schools to pass out packages to students and their parents.
The Recrea program is being duplicated in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, Jocotepec, Poncitlán and other lakeshore municipalities.
