Crosswalk design depends on public opinion

The Chapala government is preparing to run a public opinion poll to select the design for pedestrian crosswalks in central Ajijic before continuing the rehabilitation of Calle Constitución-Ocampo.

Repair work on the town’s main interior thoroughfare has been stalled since June when a number of the townspeople raised strong objections to the model yellow cement paths built at the corner of Ocampo and Aquiles Serdán, deemed to clash with the typical cobblestone streets.

City Hall press chief Felipe Aguilar indicated that the survey will be conducted in the course of next week by two methods. One will be a door-to-door canvas of households in the vicinity of Constitución-Ocampo cross streets. The other will be a poll posted on the government’s Facebook page. Respondents will choose among four building material options: rounded river stones, flat flagstones, uniform adoquín pavers, or embossed cement.
