Master artisans showcase their skills

This weekend Chapala’s Club de Yates will host the 18th annual Feria Maestros del Arts where the grounds will be transformed into a paradise for shoppers in the market for top grade handicrafts and folk art brought in from all parts of Mexico.

Visitors will also have an opportunity for direct interaction with some of the country’s most outstanding artesanos, while enjoying plenty of great live entertainment

Outstanding artisans coming from far around Mexico will showcase high-quality handicrafts and folk art at the 18th annual Feria Maestros del Arte, Friday, November 8 through Sunday, November 10 at Chapala’s Club de Yates, located at the east end of Paseo Ramón Corona.

The event supports the livelihoods of hundreds of families, while fostering regional and international awareness to the plight of the nation’s endangered arts.

This year the fair is bringing in 45 new artists from various parts of the country, as well as a Jalisco Pavilion where artists from this state will be concentrated. At that pavilion there will be tequila tasting on all three days and salsa samplings presented by Agustín of Viva Mexico Restaurant in San Juan Cosalá, at 2:30 p.m.

Entertainment includes local; duo Black String, who will open the fair Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A fashion show takes the stage at 11:30 a.m., Mariachi Mujer Mexicana performs at 12:30 p.m. Ballet Folklorico Guadalupana dances at 1:30 and Estaban Olivera will play classical guitar at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Olivera plays at 10 a.m., Marimba Bahia at noon, The Ballet at 2 p.m. and Black String at 3 p.m.

Manuel de la Peña will give a presentation on “The Cutting Edge of Paper: traditions and contemporary techniques, Saturday at 10:30 p.m. in Tent One. Carlos Barrera Reyes will explain backstrap loom weaving and brocade at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Barrera will speak on the rescue and exhibition of Na Bolom’s textile collection.

Gates open daily at 9:30 a.m., closing at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and an hour earlier on Sunday. The visitor admission fee is 80 pesos. Look for full profiles of the guest artists at mexicoartshow.com and additional fair details on Facebook.
