City Hall officials say they understand it was built by the proprietors of a waterfront restaurant to function as a docking bridge for large vessels such as the Batur tour boat that currently boards passengers for lake excursions at San Juan Cosala’s Piedra Barrenada. It seems likely that an extension will be needed to serve that purpose once the water line drops and the beach area widens. The restaurateurs claim to have obtained permission from the National Water Commission, the federal agency that has authority over the use of shoreline property.
