Renowned Purépecha cook comes to Ajijic

Juana Bravo Lázaro, one of the indigenous cooks who were instrumental in gaining international distinction for Mexico’s traditional cuisine, will be on hand as a star representative of her home state of Michoacán at the Fiesta Purépecha running Thursday, December 12 to Sunday, December 15 at the Ajijic Plaza.

Bravo was among the honored cooks who traveled to Nairobi, Kenya in November 2010 when UNESCO formally announced Mexico’s listing in its Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity hall-of-fame, qualifying as the first country ever recognized for its ethnic cuisine.
