City imposes maximum fine for killer of dog

The Chapala man accused of killing a neighbor’s vicious dog on November 21 is being charged the maximum fine defined under the municipality’s income law.

pg13aAccording to Ecology Director José Jaime Ibañez, the current law specifies monetary sanctions to be imposed for the mistreatment of animals, ranging from 1,000 pesos for minor offenses up to 7,000 pesos for causing death.

Persons duly notified of such violations are granted up to ten working days to appeal for suspension or reduction of the fine, giving the individual in this case until December 20 to make his case or pay up.

State authorities have not revealed any progress in the investigations that may lead to criminal charges being filed against the dog killer.
