Digital platforms impact hotel industry

Statistics registered by Jalisco’s Tourism Department (Secturjal) indicate that hotel business in the Lakeshore region dropped by nine percent over the recent December-January holiday season in comparison with the previous year, falling from a 63.79 to 54.74 percent occupancy rate.

pg9aAlthough Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya differs with the finding, noting that the municipality was packed with holiday visitors who filled all local lodging spaces, he believes the figures are skewed somewhat by digital platforms such as Airbnb that operate off the Secturjal grid.
