The body of a 60-year-old man from Poncitlán was recovered from the waters of Lake Chapala Monday, March 2, some 300 meters offshore near San Nicolás de Ibarra.
The elderly fisherman was reported missing around 5:40 p.m., the day after his boat capsized under strong windy conditions. Another adult and two minor passengers aboard the vessel managed to make it back to land to survive the incident.
Rescue efforts by teams from Chapala’s Civil Protección Unit and the local Harbormaster headquarters were called off at nightfall. The search was resumed early the following day until the man’s corpse was recovered around 4 p.m.
