In a wise but heart-wrenching decision, the organizing committee of Ajijic’s annual Passion Play has canceled the 2020 production due to the encroaching Coronavirus pandemic.
This would have been the 41st annual staging of the religious pageant performed in episodes staggered between Palm Sunday and Holy Saturday.
While similar to Via Crucis and Judea Viva presentations staged elsewhere, La Pasión de Cristo is a unique homegrown version spearheaded by a lay group operating independently, but in cooperation with, the local church. It is pulled together by more than 200 volunteers who take on acting roles or assist behind the scenes with props, scenery, costumes, technical details, logistics and fund raising.
