Cruz Roja Chapala stocked with Covid-19 supplies

The Chapala Cruz Roja (CRC) clinic has received a supply of materials from Jalisco’s Red Cross headquarters to be used in case there is a need to attend to walk-in patients with symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

The stock includes protective gear such as hazmat suits, top grade face masks, goggles and gloves for doctors and nurses, along with sanitizing gel and other medical staples.

Two weeks ago the CRC medical staff also went through special training provided by Cruz Roja Jalisco experts on proper handling Covid-19 cases. Some of the medics have been assigned to assist at a checkpoint set up near the Santa Rosa junction of the Guadalajara-Chapala highway to take the temperature of motorists and passengers headed towards lakeside.

The Chapala clinic has an isolation area set up to separate persons showing symptoms of Corona virus contagion from patients requiring care for other health emergencies. However, individuals who think they may have contracted the disease are advised to contact the Jalisco Health Department hotline at 333-823-3220 for guidance, rather than show up at any local medical facility.

Due to the pandemic, CRC has been forced to postpone the local fund-raising campaign (colecta) usually held at this time of year. Honorary President Yolanda Martínez has put out a plea for donations urgently needed at this critical time. She suggests that anyone who happens to keep containers of spare change at home consider contributing the coins to the Cruz Roja kitty.  Arrange for front door pick-up by calling her at 331-485-9048.
