Chapala finally chalks up first Covid cases as the disease envelops the lakeshore region

After evading Covid-19’s steely grip on Jalisco for nine weeks and overcoming two false alarms, Chapala has finally been added to the growing list of pandemic venues, with the first two cases of the disease confirmed by federal, state and municipal authorities in the course of this week.

for no 5The federal Ministry of Health (SSA) erroneously added Chapala to its database on May 26, rectifying the mistake the following day after it was discovered that the patient in question actually resides in neighboring Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos.

Another clerical glitch occurred on May 30 when Chapala once again briefly appeared on the SSA platform. The correction showed up later the same day with the case switched to its proper place in the column for Zapopan.

Chapala’s good fortunes ran out Monday, June 6 with official confirmation of its first case, pertaining to a male patient, age 44, with a medical history of diabetes, hypertension and obesity. He resides in the municipal seat.
