Chapala kicks off dengue prevention campaign

While calling on citizens to redouble efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the Chapala government is simultaneously launching a campaign to prevent the outbreak of a dengue epidemic.

pg11bStarting this week, trash collectors are making rounds to different neighborhoods to offer door-to-door pickup of household junk that may inadvertently turn into hatcheries for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, transmitter of the dengue, zika and chikungunya viruses.

The descacharrizacón campaign aims to facilitate the elimination of discarded objects that may fill with stagnant rain water in which mosquitoes are apt to reproduce. Items such as buckets, bottles, food containers, toys and tires that have piled up in patios, yards or on rooftops will be hauled away at no charge to residents.
