Chapala hotel designated as backup Covid-19 isolation center

Chapala’s Hotel Montecarlo is one of two University of Guadalajara (UdeG) properties that have been tapped for adaptation as temporary living quarters for Covid-19 patients requiring isolation without hospital treatment.

pg3bUdeG Rector Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí announced that the Hotel Villa Primavera, located on the western outskirts of metropolitan Guadalajara, will be ready for service as a Voluntary Isolation Center (CAV) by Monday, June 29. It will house people who test positive for the SARS CoV-2 virus and who are asymptomatic or show only mild symptoms and need a place to recover without exposing their family members.

Already closed to the public since April 2, the Hotel Montecarlo is being held in reserve indefinitely in case its 49 guest rooms are needed to cover overflow from Villa Primavera.

Villanueva revealed the isolation contingency plan during a June 22 press conference prior to leading Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, Minister of Health Fernando Petersen Alanguren and Social Development Coordinator Ana Bárbara Casillas on a tour of the grounds and guest quarters.
