Getting out of Dodge

Chapala is not the only place where city dwellers and other Jalisco inhabitants are looking to go for relief from Covid-19 anxieties.

But not all tourist destinations are alike when it comes to avoiding exposure to the highly infectious disease.

Puerto Vallarta, for example, ranks fourth in the state in the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, with 866 confirmed cases registered as of July 1. Tequila has only 19 cases on record, while the religious tourism hub of Talpa de Allende stands at 15 and Teuchitlán, home to the Guachimontones archaeological site, reports eight.

Mountain towns Tapalpa, San Sebastián del Oeste and La Manzanilla de la Paz are holding at one case each, a notch above Mazamitla, still registered at zero.
