Public debate continues over appropriate use of the unbroken eight-kilometer length of the Chapala-Ajijic ciclovía.
To clarify misunderstandings, Pablo Dávalos Cervantes, supervisor of the leg stretching from the Avenida Madero intersection to the Milagrosa Park at Chapala’s western outskirts, explained that newly painted symbols showing a pedestrian and a bicycle indicate sections where the two-way cycling track is bordered by sidewalks to allow for travel on foot.
Boasting of the near conclusion of the work in a June 22 Facebook post, Governor Enrique Alfaro stated, “Don’t think that this is just an exclusive lane for bikes; the project also includes decent sidewalks, safe crosswalks, planters and lighting.”
