Testing for the Sars-CoV-2 virus is currently available at two private labs in the Chapala area.
Laboratorio Clínico El Lago, located at Juárez 649A, directly behind the Chapala bus terminal, offers both the PCR nose and throat swab test to indicate active Covid-19 infection and the lgG and IgM blood test for antibodies that can be detected about two weeks after the disease strikes.
The PCR exam is applied by prior appointment only, scheduled between 6 and 8 a.m. or after 3 p.m. The cost is 4,500 pesos. The antibody test is available to walk-in clients any time during regular hours, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday or 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The cost is 1,300 pesos. A local branch of the Chopo laboratory chain located at Avenida Hidalgo 75-C, next door to Pancho’s Deli Market in Riberas del Pilar, offers only the antibody serology test, applied between 7 and 11.30 a.m. to persons who have fasted eight hours in advance.
