Call Lois Cugini the poster girl for the proverb, “great things come in small packages.”
Small in stature, but a giant in terms of personality, she is well known and admired in the multiple spheres of the lakeside community. After more than three decades as a dynamo in the local business sector, last week she closed the doors of Cugini’s Boutique in the heart of Ajijic to open a new chapter in the book of life.
Photos of her emblematic clothing and Mexican craft emporium at the corner of Calles Morelos and Independencia have appeared in dozens of guidebooks, tourism promotion materials and Internet publications. The singular images of svelte fashion models with flower blossom heads that grace the exterior were originally created in 2004 by local artist Bruno Mariscal, refreshed three times in subsequent years to maintain their brilliant hues.
