Police bust home break-in suspects

Chapala police detained two men indentified as probable suspects in a series of recent home burglaries committed in La Floresta, San Antonio Tlayacapan and other localities.

Officers pulled over a white van traveling on the highway near the Libramiento intersection on Sunday, September 13, following up a report of a break-in lodged by a resident of San Antonio. The vehicle and clothing worn by the suspects closely matched images captured by video surveillance cameras mounted at two different burglary sites.

According to the police department’s report on the detention, the men were found to be in possession of illicit drugs, with no mention of stolen goods detected inside the vehicle. The suspects were turned over to state prosecutors for investigation.

Elsewhere on the local crime front, numerous incidents of pick-pocketing by thieves known as “mustard-bandits” have been reported over the past several weeks, occurring at various points between Riberas del Pilar and Ajijic, including several popular marts of trade. The culprits typically squirt mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise on the backs of unwary victims and pilfer their wallets while pretending to clean off the mess.
